A convicted Mildura fraudster has landed herself back in hot water with the law with the magistrate blaming her “stupid influence” boyfriend for getting her in trouble.

Elise Dawes pleaded guilty in Mildura Magistrates’ Court on December 6 to one charge of driving a motor vehicle knowing she had been given direction to stop by police.

The court heard police saw Dawes driving a gold Holden Commodore sedan on April 18 and indicated for her to pull over.

Instead, Dawes put her foot down, speeding away from the cops between other passing vehicles, in an attempt to get away.

Officers had recorded the registration plates and attended the address of the registered owner a short time later.

The court heard while police spoke with the owner of the car, Dawes pulled up outside the property in the Commodore.

She admitted she’d been driving the car, telling police she’d been “on her way to pick up a friend from hospital”.

Elise Dawes faces court for the second time this year over driving offences, just months after being convicted for ATO fraud.

The court heard Dawes had failed to answer summons to the court on October 24, sparking a warrant for her arrest.

She was arrested on November 6 on this and other matters before the court.

On Wednesday Dawes’ lawyer Peter DeLorenzo said his client “knew she was going to lose her licence”.

Magistrate Patrick Southey noted Dawes had only been in trouble with the law recently.

“She’s an adult and this is her fault, but her choice of boyfriend wouldn’t be helping all that much either,” he said.

“Women can get in trouble by themselves, but more often than not there’s a bloke in the background giving a stupid influence.”

Mr Southey cancelled and disqualified Dawes’ licence for six months and sentenced her with conviction to pay a fine of $590.60.

Dawes was previously in court in September after being caught committing tax fraud, rorting the tax office out of nearly $40,000.

She will return to Mildura Magistrates’ Court in January to face other outstanding matters.
