AroundAgain Mildura makes it easier to recycle your old appliances

Need to get rid of appliances or documents? This Mildura business can help.

Disposing of and recycling old electronics and home appliances is set to become even easier for Mildura residents.

AroundAgain will open its upgraded facility on Thursday, out by the Mildura landfill.

AroundAgain creates inclusive jobs for people experiencing barriers to employment through disability or disadvantage, and keeps consumer items out of landfill.

Its services include a sales shop, where customers can come and browse its ever-changing range of furniture, homewares, appliances, books, toys and more.

The Christie Centre uses its social enterprises, including AroundAgain, to create accessible work opportunities for people of all abilities in the Mildura region.

Christie Centre chief executive Florence Davidson said the upgraded facility will aid with recycling unused household appliances.

“Sometimes we will get a range of household appliances, and rather than them going to landfill, we are able take out some core sections of them and recycle those,” she said.

“For instance taking a toaster apart - there are some metals in there, and a range of other components that we’re able to recycle rather than it go waste.”

Electronics, and home appliances, will be able to be recycled at the AroundAgain facility in Mildura.

“It has been a significant commitment by the Mildura Rural City Council and Sustainability Victoria and ourselves to create a state of the art facility,” Ms Davidson said.

“This will allow us greater space for some of the other aspects of such as upskilling, the repair shop, the electronic waste dismantling … this facility gives us some real significant planning into the future for what might be able to be recycled.”

AroundAgain co-ordinator Sharon Brettig said it would take almost anything, as long as there was a market for it.

“We’ll take anything with metal in it, because there is a market for that, and we will take computers and laptops as well,” she said.
