A husband’s snap decision to steal a sex toy for his wife as a joke has proven costly.
Mildura man Andrew Easton pleaded guilty to theft of the vibrator at Mildura Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Police said on October 19 last year Easton was in the Langtree Ave Chemist Warehouse store in Mildura to collect a script.
While waiting, he went to aisle 1, removed a purple vibrator from its packaging and placed it in his pocket.
He was arrested on December 24 and made full admissions, telling police he stole the item as a joke for his wife.
Easton’s lawyer said his client, who had lived with his partner for 20 years and was a talented footballer in his 20s, had “no real excuse” for the offending.
Easton had twice broken his neck, contributing to issues with medications and drugs, and he was now on a disability support pension.
“Hopefully this is not the start of something, hopefully it’s the end,” his lawyer said.
Magistrate Michael Coghlan fined Easton $250 with conviction and ordered he pay $49.99 in restitution to Chemist Warehouse.
