Mildura Central is set to welcome two new stores on Thursday amid a tough year for the retail sector.
Popular national chain Boost Juice, which has been serving up smoothies around Australia since 2000, will make its Mildura arrival.
Boost had advertised it was looking for a Mildura franchisee earlier this year.
Mildura Central retail marketing manager Lexi Golding said a local family had taken up the franchise, with the new outlet to be located near the food court.
Meanwhile, emerging fashion brand Elm Lifestyle will open, having chosen Mildura as the location for one of its first stores.
Ms Golding said Elm was a new brand with “modern, quirky fashion for women”, stocking sizes 6 to 22.
It will be located between Babylon Barber and The Athlete’s Foot.
The coronavirus pandemic has presented challenges for many retailers, but there are bright spots.
Ms Golding said Mildura Central had received a boost from residents shopping locally, rather than purchasing items on trips away to Melbourne or Adelaide.
“We’ve been pretty lucky,” she said.
“We’ve really bounced back, our sales aren’t too bad considering the pandemic, because we’ve found people are actually spending money here while they can’t travel.
“We’ve noticed a boom in the jewellery category and homewares, they are doing better than on par with last year.”
Sunday’s announcement that food courts in regional Victoria will be allowed to open with rules on seating was also welcomed.
Mildura Central’s food court will reopen on Wednesday, at 25 per cent capacity.
It will benefit food court businesses Mallee Burger and Oriental Cuisine.
