A 25-year-old ice addict accused of breaking into a woman’s house intending to sexually assault her has faced the Mildura Magistrates’ Court for the first time on the charges.
Alex Vale was charged with two counts of aggravated burglary with a person present, one count of assault with intent to commit a sexual offence and one count of possessing the drug methylamphetamine.
The court heard Mr Vale admitted to the aggravated burglary to police but denied the sexual offence charge.
The charges stem from an incident on Wednesday when a 50-year-old woman ran into the street screaming for help after she had allegedly been confronted by an intruder in her property on the corner of Eleventh St and Benetook Ave.
Mr Vale was denied bail as it came to light he had a half gram a day ice addiction.
The prosecution laid out a litany of alleged offences they say the man committed in a crime spree through Mildura in December and January.
The prosecutor alleged heused the proceeds of his crimes to fuel his drug addiction.
Denying bail, Magistrate Patrick Southey encouraged Mr Vale to use his time in prison as an opportunity to get himself clean of the drug.
The 24-year-old will face court again on April 10.
