A Mildura thug got into a brawl outside of a Mildura Woolworths with a friend over the sale of a jumper, before squaring up to the off duty cop who tried to intervene.
Adam Edwards, 24, pleaded guilty at Mildura Magistrates’ Court to a string of offences, including threats to kill, affray and criminal damage.
In October 2024 Edwards got in a brawl with another man after a dispute over the price of a jumper outside a Woolworths in Mildura.
A fist fight broke out in front of frightened shoppers leaving the Woolworths on Langtree Ave until an off duty police officer broke it up.
Edwards, still upset, walked toward the off duty police officer with a raised fist, hurling abuse before he was arrested by uniformed police.
On Christmas Eve 2024, Edwards was with a support worker hoping to get his phone fixed at iFixit on 15th St in Mildura.
After he discovered the store was closed for the Christmas period he threw his phone, before chucking a tantrum and kicking the windscreen of the car he was in causing it to crack.
When he was arrested by police and offered an explanation as to why he did what he had done.
“I did it on purpose so (the victim) would f--k off, I was going to bash them (otherwise),” Edwards said.
Edwards smashed the window of Central Market Asian grocery store on Lime Ave with a bollard after earlier getting into a confrontation with staff over a mask they accused him of stealing.
The court heard Edwards became aggressive toward staff saying “I will kill you, I will shoot you,” before leaving the store.
After smashing the window, valued at $6500, Central Market staff followed him to the car park of Ritchies IGA and restrained him on the ground until police arrived.
Edwards told the court the staff had “kicked the s--t out of him” adding “two wrongs don’t make a right.”
His lawyer Sasha Leon Molina conceded a “short sharp term of imprisonment would be suitable for his offending.”
“You say a short one? I don’t know if I agree with that,” Magistrate Patrick Southey said.
Edwards was handed a total effective sentence of five months behind bars with 19 days reckoned as per sentence detention.
