A Mildura man allegedly bashed a woman after a night out drinking after she asked him to leave her house, a court has heard.

Jem Kilic-Aslan fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court from remand seeking bail on charges, including assault stemming from the alleged brutal attack.

The court heard on June 18, the alleged victim and Mr Kilic-Aslan had been out drinking before they went back to her house.

An argument ensued and Mr Kilic-Aslan allegedly reacted violently, pulling some of the woman’s hair out as well as a hair pin.

A shoving match allegedly ensued and police alleged Mr Kilic-Aslan grabbed the woman and started choking her.

It was further alleged that he kicked the victim’s legs out from underneath her while choking her, causing her to fall to the floor.

The court heard that while Mr Kilic-Aslan was on top of her he allegedly started smashing her head against some tiles,

Mr Kilic-Aslan allegedly punched the alleged victim in the stomach twice, before choking her some more and pushing her into a wall with such force it damaged the plasterboard.

The alleged attack continued with Mr Kilic-Aslan accused of slapping the woman in the face and choking her until she lost consciousness for a brief period.

In the days after the incident, the woman attended both her GP and the hospital emergency department, where she received a scan on her neck.

Mr Kilic-Aslan was arrested by police a couple of days later and allegedly made some admissions, but denied some of the more serious aspects of the alleged offending.

The court heard the accused was actively looking to address his alcohol problem, had stable accommodation and had employment options available to him should he be granted bail.

“All these jobs seem to be alcohol related, it’d be good if he could find a job somewhere else,” Magistrate Patrick Southey said.

Ultimately Mr Southey denied the bail application saying the risk was troubling for him to grant bail and questioned whether he met the compelling reasons condition for bail as well.

“You’ve got to display compelling, really powerful reasons (to be granted bail) and I don’t think you have done that,” Mr Southey said.

Mr Kilic-Aslan is next slated to appear before the court on July 1.
