A 34-year-old Mildura father has fronted court after assaulting an 18-year-old he believed was pressuring his young daughter into sex acts.
The father, who can’t be named for legal reasons, discovered explicit messages on the Snapchat app between his 13-year-old daughter and the 18-year-old.
After calling police, the father — along with his friends — began drinking alcohol before they hatched a plan to go to the victim’s house.
When they arrived the father burst into the victim’s caravan, throwing a computer and punching him in the head and ribs, saying “I f---ing told you to stay away from my kid”, before adding “I saw your Snapchats, you little c---.”
The court heard the victim suffered a broken left pinky finger, a sore head and sore ribs.
In handing down his sentence, Magistrate Patrick Southey said the father “acted like a vigilante thug, beating up a teenager”.
The 34-year-old pleaded guilty to the charges and was put on a two year good behaviour bond and ordered to make a $1000 contribution to the court fund.
