Melbourne rehab nurse plied addict with ice before attempting oral sex, medical board hears
A man who was working as a Melbourne rehabilitation nurse when he plied his patient, a recovering drug addict, with methamphetamine and offered him sex, is being investigated by the nursing board.

A rehab nurse plied a recovering ice addict with methamphetamine before attempting to perform oral sex on him, the Nursing and Midwifery Board has heard.
The male nurse, now aged in his late 40s but who cannot be identified to protect his patient’s privacy, met his 24-year-old victim in mid-2016 when he was admitted to a Melbourne residential rehab clinic for treatment.
The board heard the man was battling schizophrenia and drug dependency and built a rapport with the nurse after the nurse “narrowed” him down from other inpatients.
In his written statement to the board, the victim said the nurse told him he also used drugs and showed him a “track mark” — or needle mark — on his arm.
When the patient admitted he had “cravings”, the nurse told him he could give him “stuff” and they could do it together that evening while the patient was granted leave to stay off site.
“(The nurse) told him he used drugs, which is something they had in common,” the board heard.
“He said that the patient could use ice at the place where he was house-sitting and that if he relapsed (only) once he could not get kicked out of the service.”
The pair used ice that evening and while the patient was high, the nurse knelt before him and tried to undo his belt buckle, the board heard.
When the patient refused the nurse’s advances, the nurse started talking incessantly about ordering an escort and suggested they have a threesome.
The victim, feeling uncomfortable, asked the nurse to drive him to a friend’s house nearby, which the nurse complied with, the board heard.

But when the victim attended a fun run with the nurse and other patients the next day, he said the nurse’s “vibe” towards him had changed and he seemed angry.
Soon afterwards the patient was drug tested by the clinic and asked to leave when he tested positive, the board heard.
The board last month found the misconduct allegations against the nurse proven and board members noted they would make a decision on disciplinary action at a later date.
The Leader understands the man is not currently practising as a nurse or working at the clinic.
