Stonnington Council to bring back parking restrictions from June 1
Under lockdown, parking inspectors scaled back their scrutiny of the streets of Stonnington. But now restrictions are easing, they’re returning to their beats — this is where to keep an eye out for them.

An inner-east council is warning motorists that some restrictions it suspended during the coronavirus shutdown — such as parking fines — will be enforced again from next week.
When the Victorian State of Emergency was announced in March, Stonnington Council halted restrictions and fines for certain areas.
But with schools returning and more people moving around, the suspensions have now been lifted, Stonnington spokesman Jim Carden said.
“As people increasingly use their cars for shopping, work and visiting family and friends we will begin to enforce parking restrictions that were temporarily suspended,” he said.
Suspended parking restrictions included no parking in street-sweeping areas and schools (red signs) and time-limited parking areas (green signs).
Mr Carden said warnings would be issued this week to give people time to adjust but fines would be reintroduced on June 1.

“During this time all other infringement notices will continue to be issued,” he said.
Parking fees are not needed at Stonnington carparks with ‘pay and display’ ticket machines until September 30, but payment is still required at others, including Macfarlan St in South Yarra, King St in Prahran, Prahran Square and Elizabeth St in South Yarra, for the Prahran Market.
