A woman has lived through a terrifying attack while out walking five minutes from her Melbourne home, a court has heard.
The woman left her boyfriend’s home about 12.01am on June 1 to make the short, five-minute journey home.
Melbourne Magistrates’ Court heard she took her usual route down an RMIT laneway near building 14 between Franklin and Swanston streets, knowing it was well-lit and patrolled regularly by campus security guards.
She was laden with shopping bags an wearing headphones in both ears, walking through the alleyway, when she felt someone behind her.
She turned her head and saw a man standing right behind her.
The man, Treveor Milne, 36, allegedly picked up his pace as she speed up to get away.
He allegedly grabbed her and pushed her into an alcove, reaching under her skirt and touching her over her underwear while she screamed and struggled to get free.
the court heard the woman managed to get free and darted into Russell St and called her boyfriend.
The woman and her boyfriend reported the incident to the Melbourne East police station and detectives used CCTV footage in their investigations.
On June 10 they arrested Milne in Pakenham and transferred to the Dandenong police station where he was interviewed and charged.
Milne pleaded guilty to charges of sexual assault and committing an indictable offence while on bail at Melbourne Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
The matter was adjourned until Thursday, where it has been indicated he will be released from custody under a community corrections order.
