About 50 people have been rushed to safety after a blaze erupted in an inner-city apartment building
Dozens of firefighters rushed to Rooms International Student Accommodation on Bouverie St in Carlton about 7.06am on Thursday after reports of a fire.
Firefighters wore breathing apparatus before entering the building and attacked the fire on the second floor.
The fire was contained to an apartment that has been extensively damaged.
A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesman said the fire was under control by 7.28am, 17 minutes after crews arrived.
“Once the fire was contained, firefighters searched the apartment to confirm all occupants had evacuated,” he said.
Two people in the unit on the second floor were treated for smoke inhalation.
It’s understood the fire started from a battery pack being charged.
