An off-duty police officer accused of glassing a female friend in Melbourne’s CBD has faced court.

A police officer from Melbourne’s southeast has been accused of assaulting a woman in Melbourne’s CBD while off duty.
Senior Constable Christopher Barnden, 31, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on September 9, facing charges of recklessly causing injury and reckless conduct endangering serious injury.
Mr Barnden represented himself on Monday and asked the court for an adjournment in order to organise legal representation.
The alleged incident happened in Melbourne’s CBD on January 7 in 2023, where Mr Barnden allegedly glassed a female friend, putting her “at risk of serious injury”.
Magistrate Stephen Ballek agreed and adjourned the case for further mention.
Mr Barnden will remain on summons and return to Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on October 29.
