Mexican near me: Guzman y Gomez opens North Melbourne restaurant
A popular Mexican food chain is continuing to expand across Melbourne, with plans to recruit more than 300 new staff members.

Popular Mexican food chain Guzman y Gomez is set to go on a huge hiring spree, as it celebrates the opening of its 20th Victorian store in North Melbourne.
The company is looking to fill about 365 positions at its Victorian restaurants, with full-time, part-time and casual roles available.
Guzman y Gomez founder Steven Marks said the company now had 145 restaurants in Australia, and 153 globally.
“Victoria is such an important market for GYG,” he said.
“Our top performing restaurants are in Victoria and after more than 16 years in operation we’re incredibly proud to have built such a strong brand here.
“We’d love anyone with drive and passion who wants to work with delicious, fresh food in a company with great vibes to apply for roles through our website.”
Mr Marks said he started the business after struggling to find good Mexican food when he moved to Australia.
“I fell in love with Australia when I moved here just over 18 years ago but the one thing I noticed the Aussie food scene seriously lacked was authentic, delicious and fresh Mexican food,” he said.
“Growing up I was always obsessed with great Mexican food and loved to eat it, so when I came to Australia it quickly became my mission to start a restaurant that offered Aussies those same authentic, fresh Mexican flavours that I had always loved.”
The latest store at 71 Flemington Rd North Melbourne officially opened its doors on Thursday and Mr Marks said his team was always on the lookout for new locations to open more restaurants.
“We’re looking to continue growing and strengthening our brand both in Australia and globally,” he said.
“We’ve worked long and hard to become Australia’s most loved Mexican restaurant, and long term we want to become the best restaurant company in the world.”
The job positions available range from cooks to sales and food service, baristas, team leaders, and restaurant managers.
