Melbourne bars want you to shout-a-Vic-a-drink to celebrate COVID-19 efforts

A bar in Melbourne’s inner east is celebrating the end of lockdown with a scheme to ‘Shout-a-Vic-a-drink’. Here’s how you can spread the love – and booze – to say thanks for all the hard yards.

Premier Dan Andrews has finally given Melburnians the go ahead to ‘get on the beers’ – and now you can help them do it.

Tap a fellow Victorian on the back for all the hard yards during the coronavirus lockdown by shouting them a drink.

Shout-a-Vic-a-drink has been started by Otter’s Promise bar in Armadale to celebrate the end of lockdown and the tremendous efforts by Victorians, who have sacrificed seeing family, travelling and heading out for a night on the town to protect each other from the spread of COVID-19.

Now bars have opened their doors it’s time to acknowledge our efforts with a hard earned drink for yourself and another random Melburnian.

To shout a drink pay $10 to participating bars in person or online and the staff will give a random patron a free drink when they go to pay.

If you’re the lucky drinker who gets to skip the bill post online and tag the bar using #ShoutAVicADrink in return.

Otter’s Promise co-owner Garrity Hill said her and co-owner Dan Taranto saw the chance for Melburnians to celebrate by getting on the beers together.

“I was on social media and so many people were thrilled for Victoria reopening and wanted to celebrate our COVID-19 recovery from afar and shout a beer,” she said.

“This is an attempt to create some unity and for everyone to say thank you for all the effort put in the last few months.

“We’ve all been through hell and back and have managed to get through.”

Otter’s Promise are asking other bars to get involved to spread the free booze even further.

The campaign also gives other states the chance to thank Victoria for their lockdown persistence over the last six months.

Otter’s Promise staff celebrate four years of serving drinks this December and are thankful the local community have embraced the delivery service while hospitality venues across Melbourne closed during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Shouting drinks has become so popular the now buzzing bar has been giving a random customer a drink every half-hour.

To book a reservation and buy a drink for yourself or another random Melburnian call (03) 9042 2785 or shout a Vic a drink online via otterspromise.com.au
