Cork and Canvas have reopened their South Melbourne studio, giving Melburnians the chance to once again catch up with mates over drinks, nibbles and a splash of creativity.

Many Victorian’s have had a crack at DIY while in lockdown, but these classes won’t leave you fending for yourself – trained artists are at the ready to guarantee you go home with something special.

Cork and Canva first opened eight years ago in Mooney Ponds before making the move to South Melbourne where it has thrived and become a popular activity for adults with a childish creative flare.

Creative director Melinda Janiszewski started the company after moving from the US to Melbourne in search of a change from her corporate life.

“It’s something you can do to shut your mind off, relax and not think about work and everyday dramas and literally brings you back to your childhood in a fun way,” she said.

“There’s a blank canvas, you can do no wrong and have a glass of bubbles and catch up with friends.

“We break (the artwork) down while you’ve got drinks and nibbles and the artist at the front will talk you though everything.”

Classes are held at night with guests able to BYO drinks and snacks while the studio provide all art essentials.

The new painting schedule has a range of different workshops from recreating Van Gough’s starry night to a silhouette sweep of Melbourne.

The painting sessions can booked for groups and Christmas parties which meet social distancing and COVID-19 restrictions.

Cork and Canvas will be implementing a number of measures to ensure the safety of all guests so here’s the lowdown: the studio will be professionally cleaned prior to each session, all guests will be greeted at the door with hand sanitiser, and glassware will be cleaned using an industrial glass washer on the highest setting. and all wooden cheese boards will be removed.
