A Lalor man accused of setting controversial Docklands nightclub ATET on fire has had his case delayed as the owners face more than $350,000 in damages.
Jemli Williams Mariner, 32, was set to front the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on October 11 facing arson allegations brought by police, however did not appear.
The court heard both parties needed more time to “case conference the charges”.
Mr Williams was charged in July, over a year after the floating nightclub — located in Victoria Harbour — was engulfed by flames in January 2023, leaving the popular club in ashes just one week after it reopened its doors.
The venue was empty at the time of the fire, however the owners were left with more than $350,000 in damages.
Photos from the venue in the aftermath show charred tables, chairs and significant damage to the interior or the club, as well as some of the roof melted off.
The nightclub fire followed months of backlash from the Docklands community over noise pollution.
Mr Williams Mariner is set to face a string of charges including criminal damage by fire (arson) and the possession of methamphetamines.
Mr Williams will return to court on November 8.
