Don't miss out on the headlines from Melbourne City. Followed categories will be added to My News.
Racing fanatics have booked out pubs around Victoria for the 160th running of the Melbourne Cup, but if you’re watching from home you won’t miss out.
Pristine weather means it’d be rude not to have a BBQ, run a sweep and have a few drinks to celebrate one of the biggest days on the sporting calendar.
HOW TO WATCH
Channel 10 will have coverage from 10am until 5.30pm which will include all races at Flemington.
While the big race starts at 3pm, here is a list of every race and its starting time:
10.45am: Darley Maribyrnong Plate
11.20am: World Horse Racing Desirable Stakes
12pm: Schweppervescence Plate
12.40pm: The Macca’s Run
1.20pm: Tab Trophy
1.55pm: Grinders Coffee Roasters Trophy
3pm: Lexus Melbourne Cup
4pm: Furphy Plate
4.40pm: The Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes
5.15pm: Mss Security Sprint
Other race meets, such as Randwick, Kembla Grange and Morphetville, will be shown on Sky Racing on Foxtel.
Fans who didn’t manage to nab a table at their favourite pub will be able to watch the races on the big screen in Fed Square.
The Melbourne Cup will be broadcast on the venue’s digital facade for racing fans to watch from socially distanced ‘comfort zones’ marked out by white circles on the artificial turf.
A spokesman for Fed Square also confirmed that outdoor dining areas will be extended for Fed Square’s restaurants, bars and cafes to allow customers to watch the races.
“Visitors will need to either be at a table of one of the hospitality establishments or secure one of the comfort zones to be able to enjoy the race at Fed Square, in the interests of keeping everyone safe,” he said.
WEATHER
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a top of 29C for Tuesday, which would make it one of the warmest Melbourne Cup days on record.
Light north-westerly winds are also forecast, to provide the horses a bit of respite from the heat.
RESTRICTIONS ON GUESTS
While the weather lends itself to a ripping day for a BBQ and a few drinks, restrictions are still in place for the number of guests people can have to their house.
Metro Melbourne residents can have two adults and any dependants (from one house) that can’t be left at home by themselves.
Regional Victorians have the same restrictions but the two adults and dependants can be from different households.
