A man viciously assaulted just metres from his CBD apartment by in Hosier Lane says “drug dealers and takers” have the run of the city in lockdown.
The man, who did not want to be named, told The Melbourne City News he was on his way to the supermarket on Wednesday when he was attacked.
“There was a man … in Hosier Lane, as I walked past he asked if I stole his paper, he asked again and then punched me in the head,” he said.
“I fell over and he kicked me in the groin, I was in shock and called for help.
“It was unprovoked.”
The man said violent behaviour and drug taking was going on in broad daylight in Melbourne’s now empty laneways.
“There is behaviour going on police don’t investigate, drug taking in the middle of the day in Rutledge Lane,” he said.
“I’m still going to go out to the shops, but not up Hosier Lane.
“It seems drug dealers and takers have their run of the city during lockdown.”
He reported the incident to Melbourne East Police Station before attending St Vincents hospital for treatment.
“If I walked out accidentally and forgot my mask I would get a fine, there are very strict laws not being enforced,” he said.
“The man that assaulted me was back in Hosier lane today, I called police who attended, but he was still there this afternoon.”
Victoria Police said they will continue to investigate the assault.
