An unhappy handyman who took petty revenge on customers who refused to pay him for a two day job has escaped a conviction.
Garry Cook pleaded guilty in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court to property damage after ruining an ex-customers front door lock.
The court heard Cook completed a job at the victim’s Williamstown home in late 2023, making repairs to the property’s side gate.
Cook’s customer was not happy with the work and refused to pay the handyman for the two days he attended, despite the gate being fully repaired.
Cook waited seven months to exact his revenge on the victims, returning to the property in June 2024.
On CCTV provided to police by the victims, Cook could be seen attending the house, where he poured resin into the front door lock, making it unusable.
When police caught up with Cook, he said he “didn’t remember the offending”.
In court on Wednesday, Cook made full admissions to the damage.
He was sentenced without conviction to an adjourned undertaking, promising the court to be of good behaviour for 12 months.
He was also ordered to make a donation to the Williamstown Hospital and pay the victims $50 in restitution.
