A sudden change of colour to a popular creek has left residents puzzled and sparked an EPA investigation.
Stony Creek in Cruickshank Park turned a bright shade of green after a suspected plumbing spill into the waterway.
In a video shared to Facebook on Friday afternoon, the footage shows the water flowing as an unnatural bright green, leaving locals “disgusted”.
“It’s disgusting, it looks like a Halloween joke,” Rebecca Bonser said.
“It was clear this morning.”
Maria Correia said she had reported environmental issues before, but “nothing ever happened”.
“Someone may or may not come to investigate had may or may not find the culprit,” she said.
“However nothing ever happens to punish these criminals.”
An EPA spokesman has issued a warning to the public, warning people not to get into the creek.
“Avoid contact with water in Stony Creek, near Cruickshan Park and Somerville Rd in Yarraville,” they said.
“We’re responding to multiple reports from the public of bright green discolouration of the water.”
It is not clear what the cause of the discolouration is, but speculation was rife among Yarraville park goers.
“That’s crazy,” Wendy Davis said.
“Maybe it’s a schoolies prank.”
More to come.
