Dozens of Victorian nursing homes are battling Covid outbreaks, as the virus continues to spread across the state.

There are outbreaks at 218 aged care homes in Victoria according to the latest data from the federal government on July 29.

Nellie Melba Retirement Village in Wheelers Hill had the most active resident cases (76) followed by Eventide Homes Stawell (75), Mount Clear Aged Care (70), Assisi Centre Aged Care Rosanna (64), Casey Aged Care (56), Cumberland View Aged Care Whalley Drive Wheelers Hill (51), Baptcare The Orchards Community (50), Arcare Templestowe (50) and Bupa Ballarat (46).

Nationally there are 9906 active Covid cases in 1064 active outbreaks in residential aged care facilities across Australia.

Of these, 6360 cases are in residents and 3546 cases are in staff.

It comes as Victoria recorded 10,079 new cases on Tuesday and 13 deaths.

There are 802 people in hospital including 44 in intensive care.

Health experts believe Victoria’s current Covid wave has passed its peak, however the state’s hospitals are expected to remain under severe pressure for weeks to come.

There are also concerns that many Covid-positive Victorians are failing to either undertake a test or officially record their results with authorities.

Wyndham recorded the highest number of new cases on Tuesday (565), followed by Casey (564), Greater Geelong (469), the City of Whittlesea (354), Hume (332) and Monash (315).

Casey has the highest number of total active cases in the state (3342), followed by Wyndham (2959), Greater Geelong (2593), the City of Whittlesea (2046), Monash (1817) and Hume (1804).

Postcode 3030, which includes the suburbs of Werribee and Point Cook, has the most active cases in the state, with 1313, followed by postcode 3029 (Tarneit, Hoppers Crossing, Truganina) with 1225 cases, and postcode 3977 (Cranbourne, Cranbourne North and West), which has 1193 cases.
