An accused thief who allegedly dressed up as a cop with two other men to carry out a Doncaster East home invasion has failed to appear for his court hearing.
Ryan Carruthers, 40, Shannon Picken, 37, and Ben Chetcuti, 44, were set to front the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on December 19, facing home invasion charges, however, Mr Picken failed to appear from custody.
The trio were booked in for a committal hearing on Thursday, but due to Mr Picken’s absence it had to be delayed to a later date.
The reason behind Mr Picken’s failure to appear was not revealed to the court.
Police have alleged the trio impersonated cops and robbed an eastern suburbs home on April 10, allegedly using a police badge and an “occupier search warrant” to force their way into the home.
In July, the Herald Sun reported the occupants — including a child — were allegedly ordered to not move before the trio ransacked through the house, getting their hands on $400,000 worth of jewellery.
Mr Picken allegedly attacked an occupant with knuckledusters.
He was arrested and charged with weapon possession and recklessly cause injury after he allegedly sustained injuries at the scene and required hospital treatment.
Mr Carruthers, a known bikie associate, was arrested at Broadmeadows in late April.
It’s alleged Mr Carruthers was busted with a firearm, GHB and meth.
Mr Chetchuti was also arrested and charged on April 12, allegedly caught with multiple firearms.
The three men will return to the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on January 17.
