It can take time driving around to find festive homes that go the extra mile. Not now, here’s 20 of the best from across Melbourne.

There’s dozens — if not hundreds — of homes all decked out in Christmas lights, with some of the most amazing displays you will see.

Finding those who have gone that extra mile to make visitors’ jaws drop in awe can be tricky, so we have picked out our favourites from the dozen of entries on our interactive map to help you out.

EAST

MIRACLE ON BLUCHER ST CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

Raising money for Cure Brain Cancer Australia, this house has thousands of lights, which actually dance.

CARUANA FAMILY DISPLAY

60 Hunter Rd, Camberwell

Raising money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation, the Caruana have definitely gone all out, with a 5m Santa and reindeer one of the many inflatables that will have the kids’ mouths wide open in awe.

There’s also a snow machine and thousands of LED’s and other decorations.

TRAVERS FAMILY CHRISTMAS DISPLAY

The Travers family have spared no expense and gone all out with their Christmas festive decorations — even Bluey and her family have made an appearance.

In their fifth year their decorations have grown to include fairy lights, a blow up Santa, reindeer, and glorious festive tunnel and shooting stars.

Jessica and Daniel Travers have been trying to bring joy to Yarra Valley families all year after lighting up their house in fairy lights to lift spirits at the start of the pandemic in March.

LIGHTS ON FOR COREY

The family behind these lights started the display three years ago due to the loss of their son.

It has grown and has a huge village with a train, 5m Christmas sleigh and Santa on Saturdays for photos.

GINGERBREADHOUSE

This Rowville family has gone all out magnificently lighting up their two-storey house for Christmas. It has light up kangaroos, an inflatable snowman, and Santa, and plenty for festive-loving little and big kids alike.

PORTEOUS FAMILY DISPLAY

The Porteous family has added around 30,000 new LED lights to its display.

The Porteous family say they have spent COVID-19 isolation updating their Christmas display to digital lights — adding a whopping 30,000 of them.

And everyone is welcome to walk through and take photos.

SHAFTSBURY LIGHTS

A perennial reader favourite, this walk-in winter wonderland for kids is full of animation, snow and bubble machines, lasers, music and — yes, this is true — free candy.

Oh, and don’t forget to stand under the mistletoe.

Nominated by two readers as the street in the south to visit. With more than 20 houses getting into the festive spirit with lights, inflatables, music and even Santa himself moving around inside a house with a candle, this street is sure to get the kids excited.

BITTERN CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR

Alex is a 22-year-old who has diagnosed Autism. He is passionate about putting up his lights every year and has a wonderful display for all to enjoy. You won’t be disappointed, he loves having people come to see them.

There is something for everyone at this festive extravaganza. Santa’s elves — the homeowners — said the purpose of their design was to make people smile, which is why there is more than 30 blow moulds. The display changes and increases each year and this time the neighbours joined in.

For this one you need to get out of the car — there are window displays, which include snowmen, Christmas trees and Santa himself. The house next door is going all out as well, so you get twice the bang for your driving buck.
