Police are on the hunt for two suspects who threatened a service station attendant with weapons in an alleged armed robbery in Maidstone.
Two men entered a Liberty petrol station on Ballarat Rd in Maidstone where they jumped the service counter and allegedly threatened a worker with a large kitchen knife.
Police believe the men made demands for cash and cigarettes as they allegedly filled a bag with vapes and cigarettes while threatening the worker with one man held a handgun.
The men fled the store on Whittaker St with stolen goods.
Detective Senior Constable Chris Burzin did not believe it was a trend with police treating the armed robbery as an isolated incident.
He said the victim remained scared a week after the men held a knife to his throat and waved it around during the robbery.
“It’s pretty terrifying, especially for the victim, he’s a young student working there to put himself through uni,” he said.
“He’s rightfully scared … he’s a bit better (now) but still a bit scared about what’s gone on and how he’ll go in the future.”
Police believe a real handgun was used in the incident as the two men took about 20 to 30 vapes.
The men tried the store’s till but were unable to open it.
Police hope witnesses will come forward to help solve the crime.
“There were some people filling up at the time, we’re unsure if they saw anything,” Det Con Burzin said.
“Any information, however small can help us.”
Police are still searching after the armed robbery occurred on January 4 about 10.10pm.
Both men are thought to be 20-25 years old with caucasian appearance. One man wore a motorcycle helmet and a high-vis orange jacket while the other wore a dark hood and a high-vis yellow shirt.
