It’s been another busy off-season at Point Cook Centrals.
The number of new faces into the senior squad exceeds 20 but it’s putting the Sharks in a better position than they were before.
There have been a number of recruits sign contracts with the WRFL club but there’s also under-18s from season 2023 making the step up to the top grade.
Coach Dean Chambers said there had been a simple method throughout the summer.
“We wanted to add to our depth,” he said.
“Throughout last year, we were right in games against some of the better sides and would probably just run out of legs.
“And it often came down to not beating as deep as some those of those opposition teams.”
While there are fresh faces through the door, there are also plenty of familiar ones at Shark Park.
“We went after a lot of former junior players who qualified to be one-pointers,” Chambers said.
“Everyone involved in local footy knows how important those guys can be to being able to build a side.
“We were happy with how we performed in our first year in Division 1 last year but we want to improve.
“I’m pretty buoyant about where we’ll be able to go.”
Among the key inclusions has been Deer Park premiership player Mark Galea who hasn’t played in recent years.
VFL listed midfielder Zac Banch has named the Sharks as his home club in a major boost for the emerging Division 1 outfit.
“Mark will add to the midfield depth we’ve been looking for,” Chambers said.
“He’s super talented so I’m keen to see what he adds in game situations. Zac will be terrific if he’s available for us.
“Having players with that level of quality coming to your football club shows we’re heading in the right direction.”
Chambers said more recruits were expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
