A rising local footy young gun has been remembered as an “absolute cracker” following his death.

Seth Jackson, 19, was killed in a two-car collision in Upper Plenty on Monday night leaving his local clubs in mourning.

Cameron Caine, who coached Seth at Northern Football League outfit Kinglake, said it was easy to get along with the youngster whenever you met him.

“Just an absolute cracker of a young bloke,” he said.

“The first night he came down to the club, he just fit in straight away. It was like he had been there for years and knew everyone.

“On the field, he was tough as nails and would never take a backwards step. He was as quiet as a mouse.

“There’s good people, then there’s those who are A1, Seth was one of those. His loss is going to leave a massive hole in the lives’ of a lot of people.

“We were disappointed to lose him as a footballer but it was his impact as a person which had the longest lasting impact. We gathered at the clubrooms on Wednesday night and the place was packed.

“His family came and told us how much Kinglake meant to them.”

Kinglake became a second home for Seth during his football career.

He joined the club’s under-17s in 2021 before going onto play in the under-18 grand final in 2022 where he was named among his side’s better players.

Seth also made his senior debut in round seven of 2022 against Alexandra, kicking a goal.

Family and friends of the Upper Plenty teenager have taken to social media to share their memories of a young man who would always put others first.

“Thank you Kinglake Football Club for all the memories you gave Jodi, Cody, Tye and myself while he was playing his favourite game,” Seth’s dad, Robert wrote on a club social media post.

“You never forget watching your children play sport and the joy it brings to everyone involved, we love you and will miss you forever.”

The Lakers posted their own tribute.

“Seth was not only a talented young player but also a beloved member of our football family,” the club said in a social media post.

“Seth’s passion for the game and dedication to his teammates inspired us all.

“Seth will forever hold a special place in our hearts, his legacy will continue to inspire us on and off the field.”

In 2023, the popular teenager made the move to Mernda where he played several senior games and featured for the Demons under-19.5 side that won the premiership.

“A talented footballer who has left us far too soon,” Mernda wrote online.

“His skills on the field and his passion for the game were an inspiration to all who knew him.”

Seth’s career started with Whittlesea Junior Football Club where he played 1113 games.

He was described as a “committed and dedicated teammate and friend.”
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision, a 53-year-old man from Springfield, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
