Point Cook Centrals secure second win of the season

Point Cook Centrals recorded its second win of the season on Saturday as coach Dean Chambers sung the continued development of his group with two midfielders catching the eye.

In its first season of Division 1 footy, it’s all the little wins for Point Cook Centrals.

The Sharks banked their second four points of the season with a 9.13 (67) to 6.8 (44) victory over Hoppers Crossing but it was the continued growth of several players which impressed coach Dean Chambers.

His side now look set to avoid the wooden spoon after last season’s promotion and they’re finding ways to win without their stars.

On Saturday, the Sharks had seven walk up starters missing from their line-up but that didn’t stop others from stepping up to the plate.

“We’ve seen this as a development year for our group and the boys have embraced that,” he said.

“Our aim was to come up and be competitive which we’ve done, we haven’t been disgraced in any game.

“We’ve conceded over 100 just twice which is something we’re really proud of.”

On Saturday, Haidyn Shade benefited from the added responsibility with some of the Sharks stars missing with a best on ground display.

In the midfield along with the likes of Harrison Minett and Josh Gerolemou, he thrived.

“He’s really taken it upon himself to be a real leader for us in the last few weeks,” Chambers said of Shade.

“He’s having a phenomenal year. Josh is in his first year of senior footy and has been a beauty.

“Along the way, he’s had a few knock-backs but he’s using that as motivation to keep growing as a player. His growth as a person since coming back to the club has been outstanding, he’s using his voice a lot more and isn’t afraid to speak up.”

Chambers handed senior debuts to Jack Saunders and Noah Helu and he was impressed with their performances.

“Noah is only 16 and comes from a rugby background,” he said.

“He didn’t have much of it but he was very composed with the footy when he had it. Jack showed plenty of positive signs for us.”

The Sharks will now turn their attention to a clash with Yarraville Seddon.
