The young players taking the WRFL by storm

The future is now in the Western Region Football League with young guns making their mark in season 2023. Here are some of the best.

The kids are taking over in the Western Region league.

We’ve profiled some of the best so far this season.

Jay Anthony, Hoppers Crossing

Anthony has been one of the shining lights for the Warriors this season in an otherwise difficult campaign with seven mentions in the best.

Cooper Atchison, Altona

Made the move to the WRFL from Redan at the start of the season and has immediately established himself as one of the Vikings’ most impressive talents.

Leo Attesall, Yarraville Seddon

Has held down a regular spot in the Eagles senior line-up, playing 11 games so far.

Kamal Badra, Newport

The youngster continues to impress in an up and coming Panthers side.

Alipate Bryant, Caroline Springs

Remains one of the best young guns in the competition. A regular feature in Brian Lake’s senior side.

Kobe Cikala, Yarraville Seddon

Still eligible for under-18 footy and proving to be one of the league’s most exciting talents. Has played 10 senior games to date.

Ethan Di Battista, Werribee Districts

The former Western Jet has played a key role in Districts’ hot form this season, holding down a place in defence.

Riley Evans, Wyndhamvale

Returned to the club after a few years away with Geelong league clubs at the start of the season. Has slotted into the Falcons line-up with a bit of class.

Jack Fletcher, Werribee Districts

The youngster has caused more than a few headaches for opposition defenders this season with 17 goals. Has made a seamless transition into senior footy.

Giuliano Giurleo, Sunshine

Continues to play a solid role under Ben Chapman as Sunshine’s rebuild gathers momentum.

Lachlan Heriot, Spotswood

Made his senior debut last year and has gone to another level this year. He’s kicked 11 goals and has been on a fine run of form in recent weeks.

Brodie Hicks, Altona

Straight out of under-18s footy and making the most of his opportunity in the senior side, playing 11 games this year.

Xavier Kardachi, Sunshine

One of a handful of special talents at the Roos. He has kicked a goal in every game this season.

Josh Kuppen, Point Cook

Brings plenty of energy to the Dogs line-up and often gets under the skin of opposition players. Can play forward but has also been used as a makeshift ruckman.

Max Rouvray, Point Cook

One of the leading goalkickers in Division 1 this season. He is also a talented cricketer.

Tom Stelluto, West Footscray

Has taken to senior footy without issue having booted a goal in every game to have 32 for the season.
