VAFA Premier Women’s leaders Kew have seen off another challenger, this time prevailling over Collegians by nine points in a low-scoring affair on Saturday.
Goals were few and far between but, importantly for Kew, they got two of them, and added four behinds, as Collegians ran out of attacking answers.
The win maintains Kew’s unbeaten start to the season while Collegians are now facing major challengers to their top four spot.
REPLAY: Collegians v Kew (Reserves - Women)
It was a battle between first and second - but they were light years apart.
Leaders Kew have sunk second-placed Collegians by 48 points in a surprisingly one-sided VAFA Premier Women’s Reserves contest.
Don’t be mistaken, this was as dominant as it gets.
Kew rattled off the first 16 points of the match before Collegians kicked a behind early in the second term. It was to be their only point of the game.
Kew kicked 31 unanswered points in the second half to send an ominous warning to the rest of the competition.
PREVIEW
“We play our best our best footy against the top sides.”
Collegians captain Megan Harrison has sent a defiant message to undefeated VAFA Premier Women’s leaders Kew ahead of their big match on Saturday.
The fourth-placed Lions are coming off a 19-point win over Old Scotch last Saturday and are ready to announce themselves as a genuine contender against the Bears.
But they know they are facing seriously strong opposition. The last time the two teams met in round 3, the Bears won 3.8 (26) to 2.1 (13) at Victoria Park in Kew.

Harrison said she was ‘very excited’ to play in the clash against the Bears, who are yet to lose a game this season.
“We probably play our best footy against the top sides,” Harrison said.
“They bring out the best in us and it’s an honour really to play Kew.
“They are the best in the business at the moment, so we are excited for the opportunity and the challenge.”
Harrison said the underdog factor had been a motivator for them for a long time now.
“Being the underdog, we love that and we get down to business,” she said.
“We do play our best footy against the better sides, it’s been like that for a while now.”
The team is set to be led by vice-captain Harriet Cooper, who Harrison said had “really stepped” playing down back in recent weeks as well as young defender Zara Wilson.
“We are playing very well as a team at the moment, which is great,” she said.
“We haven’t had too many injuries, which is always good.
“It would be ideal to get over Kew.
“We would love to do it and there is belief within our group that we can, because if we play our best football, it is as good as anyone’s.”
