Melbourne High School Old Boys fought through wintry weather and Bulleen-Templestowe to grab the four points from their Division 2 clash on Saturday.
The Unicorns trampled the Bullants by 36 points, bringing them a step closer to securing a position in the top four, 13.13 (91) to 7.13 (55).
MHSOB coach Matt Nicholas was surprised by how efficiently his players handled the wind and rain.
“Dry conditions are more suited to our forwards and they did really well in the wet,” he said.
With a battalion of tall forwards in the line-up, Nicholas was worried his side would struggle in the wet conditions.
“In the wet, it’s difficult for our forwards sometimes, but our key forward Ashan Wijayakuma kicked six goals yesterday in the wet weather,” he said.

MHSOB midfielder Brad Jordan also clocked up 37 possessions and one major, while Luke Whitaker was able to prevent Bulleen’s highly-rated Jack Cowell from scoring.
“(Whittaker) played on their best player and kept him very quiet,” Nicholas said. “He’s not usually a tagger, and he went into that role yesterday and played really well.”
Nicholas said his side needs to work on playing a consistent four quarters of footy. “I think there’s more to improve on, we’ve had lapses in every game,” he said.
“We’re still searching for a four-quarter performance, but I think we’re definitely on the way there.
“When we played the top team, Whitefriars, we just turned it over too much, and they didn’t – and they killed us. We certainly got better over the last month.”
Meanwhile, in Premier games this week, Old Xaverians churned out another win in their match against Old Melburnians, saluting 11.9 (75) to 7.7 (49). De La Salle struggled in the wet conditions and went down to Old Brighton 10.21 (81) to 1.2 (8).
Old Geelong suffered a hefty defeat in its Premier B clash with Old Haileyburians, losing 10.19 (79) to 2.8 (20).
And in Division 1, Prahran Assumption went down to UHS-VU by 14 points, 6.5 (41) to 3.7 (25), at Brens Oval in Parkville.
