Hawthorn won its first ever Division 2 game after getting the better of Power House at Ross Gregory Oval on Saturday.
After moving up from Division 3 this season, Hawthorn has suffered a string of injuries and poor results.
Yet the Hawks’ hunger for their first four points finally pushed them across the line when they downed Power House 12.17 (89) to 4.6 (30).
Power House grabbed the early initiative, scoring three unanswered goals.
But, as the rain arrived, so did Hawthorn and it slotted 12 majors in the next three quarters to the Power House just one.
Hawthorn senior coach Kade Pargeter said his team showed tremendous effort across the board.
“First win for us at Division 2 ever, so quite a big moment for the footy club, which is great,” he said.
“Once we got our nose in front, we were hellbent on making sure we didn’t let Power House back into the game.”

Among the standouts for Hawthorn were midfielders Coady Travaglia and Aaron Downie, who doubled as small forwards.
“Coady Travaglia was sensational, he kicked five goals from the midfield,” Pargeter said. “Aaron Downie kicked four goals, which was super given that both of those guys are our midfielders.”
Hawthorn’s defence remains its biggest problem, but Pargeter is hopeful the Hawks can capitalise on Saturday’s best-this-season performance down back.
“Our back six to only give away four goals – albeit it was wet in the last half – was a pretty solid effort,” he said. “Everyone had a real crack and threw everything at it.”
