The school footballer who produced a video-game type performance is set to earn his stripes at VFL level.

Luke Lloyd, who booted 19 goals in a single match for De La Salle College in May, will make his debut for the Frankston Dolphins this Saturday.

He joins his brother Joe at Frankston, who has played five matches in 2023.

Dolphins’ coach Danny Ryan said he had been keeping any eye on Lloyd’s performances for De La Salle College, De La Salle Football Club and the Sandringham Dragons over the course of the year.

He hopes this Saturday – and the following weekend against Southport – is an opportunity for Lloyd to showcase his talent against developed men.

“He’s the brother of Joe – who we have had for years and we love – from all reports he’s a late first, second round, maybe later, maybe not, draft pick, depends on what recruiters do,” he said.

“19 goals in a school game is no mean feat and he’s been playing some pretty good footy at the (Sandringham) Dragons in the Coates league.

“He’s a little bit bigger than Joe, he’s an athletic specimen, I watched him play at De La Salle a few times in their seniors and we think this is a good challenge for him to show his wears at VFL level.

“He will have two games, he will play this game and the next game against Southport – pending injury and stuff like that – but hopefully he can showcase himself and add playing against men to his repertoire.”

Frankston takes on Werribee this Saturday at Avalon Airport Oval from 1:05pm.
