Five opponents wasn’t enough for a schoolboy on Wednesday afternoon as he broke his own record with a “sublime” haul of 19.

There was no stopping him.

De La Salle school footy captain Luke Lloyd filled his boots on Wednesday afternoon with a remarkable 19-goal haul against Mazenod.

He was on yet another lead bound for major number 20 when the final siren sounded.

Lloyd’s “sublime” performance surpassed his own record of 14 majors which he set in last year’s preliminary final as a 16-year-old.

He went on to kick another seven in the grand final.

De La Salle’s assistant coach Declan McLaughlin said Lloyd, a product out of the Sandringham Dragons and younger brother of Frankston Dolphin Joe, had majority of the back six on him in the final term.

“It got to the point where he was looking so good and playing so well that the boys were looking for him,” he said.

“They were playing five on him and he was still somehow weavin’ and turnin’ and snappin’ goals around his shoulder from 30 out on tight angles – it was very impressive.

“I think it was 19.4 or 19.5, so very straight kicking and out at Mazenod it was super windy conditions, his set shot goal kicking was sublime.

“I think at one point he had 15.1, so he had his goal kicking shoes on, that’s for sure.”

With eight to his name at halftime, McLaughlin said Lloyd’s teammates were intent on breaking the record.

“He’s the captain of that side and he’s such a humble kid that all the boys absolutely look up to him and really, really respect him,” he said.

“The boys, it might’ve been halftime or three-quarter time, were like ‘alright, you have to look for him’ but he was like ‘no, I don’t want that, if you’re in a position make sure you go for goal’.

“He is a very team-first focused player, and all the boys look up to him, he loved the performance in the end, he was really invested.”

De La Salle won the match by 184 points.
