Teenage players attending a wild party at a football club in Melbourne’s west damaged their own clubrooms, forcing the forfeiture of two games at the weekend.
Victorian Amateur Football Association club Williamstown CYMS withdrew its under-19s and Colts team from the weekend’s fixtures following the incident.
In a statement, the club revealed players had damaged Fearon Reserve facilities during an event “organised and attended exclusively by a group of under-19s players” on June 1.
The club said some attendees had breached the club’s code of conduct and “threatens the club’s relationships with volunteers, employees, sponsors, as well as the Hobsons Bay City Council who own the facilities”.
“In the subsequent weeks, the committee has endeavoured to identify the parties responsible to no avail,” the statement said.
“The attendees have been offered numerous opportunities to come forward to take accountability, however this has not occurred.”
Under-18s players who did not attend the event were still eligible for senior men’s selection on the weekend.
“The VAFA has been notified and are supportive of the sanction,” the club’s statement said in regards to forfeiting games.
Williamstown CYMS and Hobsons Bay City Council have been contacted for comment.
