The VAFA have confirmed its top three men’s competitions will change their quantity of teams to 10 next season.

The move means the Premier B competition will have an extra team next season by holding Williamstown CYMS in the league despite them finishing in a relegation eighth spot.

Premier C will have one less team after having 11 teams in the competition in season 2022.

A league statement said the move was made in accordance to their communication with clubs earlier in the season.

“The section structures reflect the VAFA’s communicated position from the start of the season that all sections in the Men’s Premier Competition will return to 10 teams per section for season 2023,” the statement said.

Section structures for the women’s and lower men competitions will be finalised in the coming weeks as the VAFA seek further information from clubs.

“Section structures for all remaining Men’s and Women’s competitions will be finalised and announced in the coming weeks,” the statement said.

“Factoring in lessons learnt from the team entry and fixturing processes from the 2022 season, it is incumbent on the VAFA to seek further information from clubs before finalising the remaining sections.

“The VAFA needs to be satisfied that teams will remain sustainable and competitive across the duration of a season before they are allocated and fixtured into a particular section.”
