DEFENDERS in VAFA Premier B must be cursing Chad Jones’ decision to come out of retirement.

The former North Melbourne and West Coast forward spent the past two years on the sidelines, content with finishing his career after St Bernard’s 2015 premiership.

Jones has returned with a vengeance to the Snowdogs’ line-up this year, booting an incredible 71 goals in 11 games.

The 34-year-old’s crowning moment came on Saturday when he booted 13 majors in St Bernard’s 28.17 (185) to 0.1 (1) thumping of Mazenod.

“He’s just getting better every game,” Snowdogs captain Simon Caven said.

“He just marks everything and he has got a great set shot.

“Everyone that watches is pretty amazed by what he can do. He’s an unbelievable mark.”

Jones was more circumspect when asked about his haul, preferring to put the focus on his team’s 12th consecutive victory.

“The boys are kicking them in pretty well,” he said.

“It’s always handy when they are kicking to advantage and putting it on the lead.

“It definitely helps the forward. It’s good to get a few run and jumps and be able to get the hands on a few and drag a few in.”

Mazenod was scoreless until the last quarter at St Bernard’s College as the ruthless Snowdogs pushed their opponent toward relegation.

“I watched from the coaches’ box and we played really well, beat them in every area of the ground,” Caven said.

Tom Sullivan also bagged four goals for the victors, while Connor Riley, Ben Huggard and Michael Angel were influential.

St Bernard’s sits one game and percentage clear of Old Carey at the top of the ladder and is primed to secure a double chance come finals.

“We want to go the rest of the year and not lose a game,” Caven said.

“Beaumaris next week, we’ll have a few guys coming back in.

“They are in a bit of form, so we don’t want to underestimate them or get ahead of ourselves.

“We’ll set ourselves every week and hopefully we can finish the year with just the one loss early on.”

The Snowdogs travel to Beaumaris this Saturday.
