WESTERN REGION FOOTBALL LEAGUE: SALVADOR BAGS NINE IN VICTORY

YARRAVILLE-SEDDON star Corey Salvador helped himself to nine goals against a hapless Newport Power on Saturday as the Eagles cruised to a 99-point triumph.

The club has enjoyed a dominant start to the Western Region Football League Division 2 season, with Salvador playing a key role in the success.

The haul took his season tally to 21 from five games. Incredible, Salvador made just two senior appearances for Yarraville-Seddon in 2017, with the club suffering its second consecutive grand final loss.

Can he be the difference this year?

SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE: LADY LIONS ROAR AGAIN

MURRUMBEENA completed a premier-and-champion season in the first year of the Southern league women’s competition in 2017.

And after three rounds it’s clear the lady Lions will again be the team to top this year.

They belted Bentleigh 25.27 (187) to 0.0 (0) in Round 1; put away Highett 33.21 (219) to 0.0 in Round 2; and on Saturday were far too strong for Lyndale 14.9 (103) to 0.1 (1).

Their percentage? With 509 points scored and only one point conceded, it stands at 50900.00!

EASTERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE: MORRISON DELIVERS IN TOUGH ROLE

FULLBACK Ryan Morrison of the Casey Demons VFL held ace Vermont forward Brett Eddy to one goal in Division 1 of the Eastern Football League on Saturday, attracting high praise from Noble Park coach Mick Fogarty.

Fogarty said he hadn’t seen a better game from a key defender — and declared AFL clubs were “crazy’’ if they weren’t looking at the left-footer.

“He’s playing against a guy (Eddy) who has just come off an AFL list, and he’s beaten him in their air, beaten him on the ground, beaten him everywhere,’’ he said.

“Gee, he defended well. Made him look silly at times.’’

Morrison, 23, who played in the TAC Cup for Dandenong Stingrays, has played two VFL games this season.

RIDDELL DISTRICT FOOTBALL LEAGUE: LOPSIDED RESULTS KEEP COMING

THREE Riddell District matches were decided by 130 points or more on Saturday and two teams were held goalless. Riddell, Romsey and Wallan piled on a combined 78 goals to Broadford, Lancefield and Rockbank’s two goals in their three fixtures. Riddell romped to a 195-point win over Broadford, Romsey downed Lancefield by 130 and Wallan hammered Rockbank by 187 points to sit top of the ladder with a 5-0 record.

VICTORIAN AMATEUR FOOTBALL ASSOCATION: ALBERT PARK FINALLY ON TRACK

Albert Park raced to its first win of the VAFA Division 3 season on Saturday.

A 0-5 start in VAFA Division 3 included four away fixtures and a pseudo home game at neighbouring Power House, yet the Falcons put all that in the rear-view mirror with an uplifting 10.13 (73) to 6.7 (43) triumph against bottom-two rival La Trobe University.

“It’s always tough for us when we lose the ground because of the grand prix,” Albert Park coach Paul Shoppee said.

“I’m really happy for the guys. We’ve worked hard and to get a result is great.”

Adrian Snowden was easily the Falcons’ best at the weekend, Tasmanian recruit Jack Lee shone at fullback, Kiwi forward Nick Hornstein logged three goals and ruckman Kirk Murray continued his strong form.

NORTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE: BEST-AND-FAIREST SET FOR SIDELINES STINT

THREE-TIME Northern Football League best-and-fairest Matt Dennis is set for an extended stint on the sidelines in a major blow to Bundoora’s premiership defence. Coach Ricky Dyson conceded the Frank Rosbrook medallist would not make a swift return and could be out for another five or six weeks with a knee complaint. Daniel Guccione stepped up to fill the Bulls’ ruck role in their 13-point win over North Heidelberg on Saturday.

MORNINGTON PENINSULA FOOTBALL LEAGUE: MORNINGTON BREAKS THROUGH IN THRILLER

WHAT a way for Mornington to get its season rolling in a one-point thriller against Bonbeach. After six straight losses to start 2018, Mornington almost blew a 20-point three-quarter-time lead but held on to win 8.7 (55) to 8.6 (54). The Dogs had lost four games by 17 points or less, so you can imagine the nerves as the clock ticked down in a tense last quarter at Alexandra Park.
