School Sport Australia Games: Youngsters impressing in U15 footy

A host of Australia’s best junior footballers with the hopes of one day playing AFL and AFLW are impressing in the national under-15 carnival. See who has stood out.

The first pool games of the School Sport Australia football competition have been completed.

In the under-15 boys competition, South Australia has finished top of its pool with a 3-0 record culminating with a convincing win over the ACT. Logan Treverton put together a big performance with three goals to take his competition tally to five after singles in the wins over WA and Queensland Maroon. Kade Clark was named best in the win. Harrison Webb and Kit Saracino are both proving to be big goalkickers for the Croweaters with five for the tournament.

WA beat Queensland Maroon in the final group game as Ashley Clayton was named best on ground while Darcy Pearson fought hard on the losing side.

Among WA’s best performers are Liam Beauclarke who booted five goals in the win over ACT while Zinzan Clark is another who has played well. Maroon’s leading performers included Ryan Hutchings.

While the ACT might not have won a game there has been moments of promising including performances from Alexander Maher and James Rice.

In pool 2, Victoria has been highlighted a strong performance from Chase Whelan who has 12 goals through the first three games. the Big V closed out the pool stage with a big win over Tasmania as Taj Brown and Liam Basil kicked three goals each.

Both teams had been undefeated heading into the game. Also among those to impress for the Vics was Angus Dunstan and Ky Bannister. Tassie youngsters Billy Chisholm and Lucan Latter had also made strong impressions.

NSW closed out its tournament with a win over Queensland White in a quality performance. Sam Douglas was impressive with two goals while Noah Golds put together a strong performance. Xavier McWhinney continued an impressive tournament for the Queenslanders.

Meanwhile in the girls’ competition, SA finished with two strong wins in the pool stage after getting the better of Tasmania. Mia Wood capped off the pool games with a best on ground performance while Mia Barwick’s three goals for Tassie took her to 10 for the tournament. Barwick did kick six in the win over ACT to start play.

Queensland Maroon secured a big win over the ACT with Lily Cook and Ella Ballantyne, who was named among the best, kicking three goals apiece. LilyMoana was named the best player on the ground.

In pool 2, Victoria remained undefeated with a win over Western Australia as Ellie Cole and Jessica Vaughan kicked two goals apiece with Olivia Bird named best afield.

NSW finished second in the group after beating Queensland White. Emily Hollingsworth put together a really strong showing with a goal. She’s been named in the best in every game.

Crossover finals will be played on Thursday.
