Southern league: Hampton Park’s Kyle Hendy takes monster hanger

Hampton Park’s Kyle Hendy took a skyscraping specky on Saturday that had many labelling it the best they’ve witnessed. SEE THE MARK

Huge local footy hanger

The Hendy hanger.

Jaws dropped on Saturday afternoon when Hampton Park livewire Kyle Hendy launched in the opening quarter against East Brighton.

Hovering on his opponent’s shoulders, he marked it clean as a whistle and made the descent to terra firma.

The spectacular grab set off a chorus of car horns, cheering and had onlookers gasping.

Was it the greatest mark in local footy?

Hampton Park coach Nathan Wilson thinks so.

“It’s the best I’ve seen live,” he said.

“It was a screamer. He was sitting on a bloke’s head for what seemed like a fortnight.”

Wilson had a great view of it because it was right in front of the coaches box.

“I saw Kevin McLean take one at Doveton in about 2008 when he stood on a bloke’s head,’’ Wilson.

“I think this one is better. I think it’s the best one I’ve seen live, I really do.

“Everyone in the crowd, it was like hands on head stuff, like wow. It was incredible.”

Hendy completed the stunning piece of play by going back and slotting the goal, one of five he kicked in the first half.

Wilson said he’s an exciting player.

“He does fly for a lot. I’ve seen him drag a few in in the last two years but this was next level,” Wilson said.

“He gives himself an opportunity each week, put it that way.”
