Carrum Patterson Lakes has taken a big step towards a successful 2023 season by locking in an experienced, proven coach.

Brad Canavan is the Lions new senior head coach for their football department for season 2023 and beyond.

He is a two-time premiership coach in Southern league, having guided Bentleigh and Chelsea Heights to flags.

For the past four years Canavan has coached Somerville in the Mornington Peninsula league’s Division 2, taking the Eagles to the preliminary final this year.

Carrum Patterson Lakes announced his appointment on Tuesday.

“Brad is a brilliant tactician and understands what is required to bring success to the CPLFNC,” the Lions said in a statement.

“He is excited about the opportunity to lead a young, developing list.”

Canavan, who replaces Rohan Bleeker as CPL coach, has vast knowledge of the SFNL.

He coached Chelsea Heights for four seasons, including the Division 2 SFNL premiership in 2017.

He coached Bentleigh to a flag in 2013.

Canavan’s coaching career also includes stints at Keysborough and as an assistant and reserves coach at VFL club Frankston.

Carrum Patterson Lakes won 11 games in Southern league Division 3 this year, losing a semi-final to Ashwood.
