Chris Horton-Milne leaves Dingley on a league-medal high.

The left-footer last night won the Southern Football Netball League Division 1 best and fairest, the Ellis Medal, polling 17 votes to defeat Port Melbourne Colts champion Kwame McHarg by one.

St Kilda City spearhead Aaron Edwards was third with 13 votes.

Horton-Milne joined Dingley from Noble Park ahead of the 2016 season, and he’s decided to return to Noble next year.

The 27-year-old said he had a sense of “unfinished business’’ at the Bulls.

“It’s the right time to go back and have a crack at Eastern footy again. I’m not going any younger,’’ he said this morning.

“It was a hard decision to leave Dingley. I’ve got a lot of great mates there and it’s a tight-knit club and we’ve had a lot of success together. But the club’s in a good spot.’’

As for the vote count, Horton-Milne said he had never polled well in league medals but this year he kicked a few goals to go with his possessions.

“I expected to do a little bit better, but not that much better,’’ he said, adding it was an honour to join a distinguished list of Ellis Medal winners.

Dingoes coach Danny Ades said Horton-Milne returned to Noble Park with the club’s best wishes.

“I think he thinks he’s got a bit of a point to prove there,’’ Ades said.

“We more or less got him because he wasn’t really cracking into the senior team (at Noble Park) and he’s always had an eye on going back and showing he can play at the level, always wanted to scratch that itch.

“He definitely can play at the level.

“He goes with my blessing. We wish him all the best and hope he goes well. We want him to show that comp how good he really is.’’

Horton-Milne’s league best and fairest can go with three premierships, two club championships, five team-of-the-year jumpers and two best-afield medals in grand finals.

He was also on Sandringham’s VFL list for the 2020 season that never went ahead; Ades said the midfielder counted as one of Southern’s most decorated players in the past few years.

In Division 2, ace Springvale Districts forward Matt Wetering polled two votes in the final game to clinch the Bennett Medal.

He finished on 18 votes, nosing out East Brighton top-liner Kai Love-Linay (15).

Wetering – who also won the Division 2 best and fairest in 2019 – is expected to play in the VFL next year.

Narre South Saints veteran Danny Brewster streaked away with the Division 3 medal and Carrum Patterson Lakes coach Rohan Bleeker and Alex Wilson shared the Division 4 award.
