Southern league club Clayton rallies behind coach Matt Ferguson following tragedy

Clayton Football Netball Club and its community has rallied around senior coach Matt Ferguson and his family after a shock tragedy.
The Ferguson’s lost their home to fire last week and Clayton has wrapped its arms around them with the support of a GoFundMe page in hope to raise funds.
“The Ferguson family have recently suffered an enormous and unexpected tragedy,” the GoFundMe page description said.
“Due to fire, they have now lost their family home and all their possessions.
“Thankfully the family were not physically harmed but this is understandably taking a huge toll.
“As part of the Clayton Football & Netball family, we are doing what we can to help out our senior coach and his family at this difficult time, as they begin to recover.
“Any and all contributions are most welcome and will be going straight to the Ferguson family. Thank you.”
$4,730 has been raised in seven days since the link went live.
Clayton president Paul Kurth said it was a no-brainer for the club to support Ferguson.
“On the Thursday night at training, the girls organised it straight away,” he said.
“Everyone at the club has put in and other people and that, it’s still going, we’re halfway to our goal of $10,000 – we’re on five, I think.
“That’s what Clayton is about, we’re a family club that sticks by each other.
“It doesn’t matter what sort of problem or trouble you’re in, we’re here to help you and support you.
“I think he is so upfront, truthful and honest, all the young kids rally around him.
“He supports, he’s not doing the coaching for the money aspect of it, it’s what he can get out of the young kids he has brought with him and what he can get out of them.”
Kurth was appreciative of Carrum Patterson Lakes’ players, coaches and officials for showing support after last Saturday’s match.
