SFNL: Endeavour Hills coach Matt Peake suggests how his Falcons will approach fellow contenders

While sitting pretty two wins clear on top of the Southern league Division 3 ladder, Endeavour Hills coach Matt Peake doesn’t feel his side has reached its full potential.

Ahead of a stage-setting month, Endeavour Hills coach Matt Peake has sent an ominous warning to contenders as he remains confident his side is yet to play its best football.

A string of difficult matches across the next four weeks doesn’t concern Peake, who’s group is “by no means a finished product”.

The Falcons face Frankston Dolphins this Saturday before taking on Carrum Patterson Lakes (fourth) in Round 15 and Ashwood (third) in Round 16.

After being “really challenged” by Heatherton in the latest 11.12 (74) to 6.12 (48) win, the Falcons’ coach admits he is aware of the upcoming block but will stick to the short-sighted approach that has produced their currently flawless record.

“I do and I don’t work in that (monthly blocks), I focus really hard on the game that’s coming,” he said.

“With so many changes week-to-week, surprises on a Thursday night before selection, I can’t afford to think too far ahead.

“Yeah I am aware of it, I know there’s good teams coming up, but there’s certainly got to be a strong focus on each upcoming game.

“We’re by no means a finished product and we haven’t played our best footy yet, and I think that’s good from my side of things.

“Hopefully we can produce it when it really counts.”

Peake will continue to focus on the group improving and let others depict the Falcons how they see fit.

“I think if people don’t think we’re a contender by now, then I am not sure what we need to do,” he said.

“I am not necessarily worried about that side of things and what everyone else thinks about us, I am probably more worried about internally improving individually.

“We’re very big on development and then obviously improving as a group.

“I know there’s a number of guys that are hopefully back in the remaining four games, hopefully that will keep pressure on spots as well – that’s all I’m focusing on.”

The Falcons’ upcoming opponent, Frankston Dolphins, has been boosted by the mid-season addition of previously North Melbourne VFL listed Jak Nardino.

Nardino has kicked eight goals in his two matches and has been named among the Dolphins’ best on both occasions.
