Simon Goosey says he’s keener than ever to coach next season, revealing he’s already spoken to “quite a few’’ clubs.
“Over the last couple of weeks the phone’s really hotting up,” he said.
“I’ll have to work out what’s best.”
Goosey said an offer from an interstate club — a full-time position — had piqued his interest.
“It’s far, far north,’’ he said.
“But it would be hard because I’ve got my kids…my young fella would probably come with me and he’d play footy up there.”
It’s understood country and suburban clubs have reached out to Goosey, who said he would “weigh things up” before making a decision.
“There’s no rush at the moment,” he said.
Goosey boasts almost three decades of coaching experience, at local and VFL level, and his record includes five premierships and 11 grand final appearances.
He stepped down from the Mornington coaching job last year, citing the need for a break after 28 years straight in the caper.
He made a surprise return to coaching this season, joining St Kilda City in Southern league as an assistant to Richard Houston. He took over as senior coach in late April but stepped down last month.
Goosey said he was keen to coach again.
“I really needed a year off,’’ he said.
“I’d been doing it for 28 years and it was good just to have a break. It refreshes you.’’
He added: “I miss teaching and the football club environment. It’s great going to training.
“I’ve got to work out what I want to do and I’m pretty certain that I will coach.
“It has to be the right job, a club that has got good juniors that you can help coach…that’s what I’m keen to do.
“Because footy is about setting something up for long term success. That’s what what you want.’’
