SFNL: Dingley has bolstered its premiership credentials with VFL trio

After signing an ex-AFL forward last month, Dingley has further geared up its premiership push by securing a trio of VFL young guns. See the latest details.

Dingley’s puzzle is piecing itself together.

In addition to the recent signing of Trent Dennis-Lane, the Dingoes have added VFL young guns Caleb Lewis, Michael Lewis and Kai Stretton for season 2024.

The trio will remain at state-league level next season but have selected Dingley as their home club.

Caleb Lewis impressed in his four matches for Footscray this year, kicking three goals in successive matches.

Michael Lewis has AFL credentials, having piqued the interest of Carlton only 18 months ago as a potential Liam Jones replacement.

Kai Stretton typically plays as a forward at VFL level, but will roll through the Dingoes’ dynamic midfield.

Dingley coach Zach Horsley said the “quality players” were a perfect fit for the Dingoes’ recognised weaknesses.

“We identified critical areas to contend with the likes of Cheltenham and Cranbourne and these boys fit that,” he said.

“We feel like them coming in, with the level they play at, that they’re going to add substantial depth to our playing list.

When I signed up at Dingley it was all about regenerating the list and getting some good quality young talent in, which is what we’ve gone and done.

“While we have needed to get some senior experience in, we’ve now gone and got some serious young talent in to give us the opportunity to play at the pointy end of the season.”

Horsley expects the trio to be given more VFL opportunities this year but is looking forward to seeing them in Dingoes’ colours at times throughout the year.

“We’re not expecting them for the full season by any stretch – and we didn’t recruit them expecting them for the season – we’re pushing them and trying to help them play as many VFL games as they can,” he said.

“We will be more than happy to welcome them with open arms when they do get the opportunity at local level.”

The four quality recruits Dingley has already secured are among over 100 movements in the Southern league so far this off-season.
