Mordialloc locks in two Karingal top-liners

The Bloodhounds have made a dashing start to their recruiting for 2021, locking in Karingal pair Callan Dixon and Dylan Gregson, both MPNFL team-of-the-year selections in 2019.

Make that two prize Bulls for Mordialloc.

A few days after announcing they had landed Karingal star Callan Dixon, the Bloodhounds have snared another top-liner from the Mornington Peninsula Nepean club, Dylan Gregson.

The key defender was among Karingal’s best players in its 2019 grand final loss to Red Hill and chosen in a back pocket in the Division 2 team of the year.

Mordi coach Brendon Moore said Gregson would be an excellent addition to his club and the Southern league.

Dixon was named Karingal’s best player in the grand final and was also selected in defence in the team of the year.

It was his fourth such honour, and he also won two best and fairests with the Bulls and played more than 200 games.

The two signings are a lifter for Mordialloc, which lost a chunk of its senior side after the 2019 season.

“We’ve started pretty well on (recruiting) so far,’’ Moore said.

“It’s been good and it’s looking positive, and hopefully we’ll keep all the boys we signed for this year.

“I don’t know if we will get any of the others (departed players) back but we’ve asked them. I’m going to focus on the players we’ve got and try to get some more in, good, young kids we can develop as senior footballers.’’

Moore, a former Essendon player and one of the Frankston VFL club’s most decorated players, joined Mordialloc after serving as an assistant coach at Cheltenham.

He previously coached Pines in the MPNFL.

Meanwhile, former Mordialloc star John Bradbury has died at the age of 79.

Bradbury won the Field Trophy as best and fairest in Division 2 of the VFA in 1965.

He joined Mordi after playing league football for Footscray.
