Local footy: All the senior coaching jobs up for grabs in 2021

With the 2020 season cancelled amid the coronavirus crisis, several community football clubs are already searching for new coaches for next season. Here are all the vacancies, all in one place.

Competition for coaching positions in the community football ranks is hotter than ever.

Several credentialed coaches are chasing gigs after falling out of the AFL system due to ‘soft-cap’ cuts brought on by COVID-19, while others from the VFL ranks have also been left without jobs.

Here are all the available senior roles across Melbourne.

ESSENDON DISTRICT FOOTBALL LEAGUE

AIRPORT WEST: The Eagles are on the lookout for a new coach after Jimmy House took a position with VFL club Sandringham. House didn’t get the chance to lead the club due to the 2020 season being cancelled, while his assistant Paul Kennedy has taken the job at RDFL club Romsey. After being relegated from Premier Division last season, the club’s list remains strong and would be among the main promotion contenders.

JACANA: In line with its constution, The Jaguars have thrown open applications for the club’s senior coaching position. Premiership player Glenn McIntyre was set to lead Jacana this year before the season was canned.

SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

SOUTH YARRA: Brenton Lockhart hasn’t stood down but, unable to commit because of COVID-19, he’s told the club to advertise and see what’s out there.

DANDENONG: The Division 4 Southern league club is on the hunt for a new coach, with Phil Muscat stepping down after two seasons in the top job.

VICTORIAN AMATEUR FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION

PEGS: Premiership mentor Dane Pound has stepped aside after taking on the top job in 2016. The club will return to Division 1 next year after finishing bottom of the Premier C ladder with two wins in 2019.
