It’s back.

Southern Football Netball League will take on Riddell District Football Netball League in 2024 in a return of interleague.

The match is a return fixture from 2019, which remarkably finished in an overtime thriller.

The 2024 edition will be held at Moorabbin’s RSEA Park on Saturday, May 11.

It will be played as a normal day of senior football and netball, with the women’s taking the reserves place between the under-19s and senior matches.

The SFNL will have a bye across Division 1, 2 and 3 to ensure the competitions best players are on show.

RDFNL CEO Jordan Doyle said there was a strong appetite for interleague’s return in his competition.

“Senior interleague is always a good experience and we haven’t done it since 2019,” he said.

“We put a questionnaire out to clubs to see if they were interested and it was very positive feedback – clubs want it, so we will facilitate it.

“We look forward to taking Southern on again.”

SFNL CEO Lee Hartman echoed the RDFNL with its eagerness, while also explaining how the league will undertake selecting its coaches.

“It’s important for the Southern league, we’ve been a big supporter of interleague,” he said.

“We had a few leagues approached us but we played Riddell in 2019 but were keen to give them a return match back in Melbourne, so it’s great to have it back on the fixture.

“We sort of put the feelers out (for coaches), we will do that in due course, there are some coaches – or ex coaches – that we know will want to get involved.

“We will set up a panel of two or three for each the seniors, women’s and nineteens.

“Having some coaches that are in the competition that know the best players is always a goal but we have also got some people outside of that group that are always interested as well.”
