What number will Karingal’s star recruit Marc Holt be wearing this season? It’s a high number, put it that way.

WHAT number will Karingal’s star recruit Marc Holt be wearing this season?

The champion will have 77 on his back for the Bulls.

For his entire career, he’s worn No. 7 — and with distinction, booting over 1000 goals for Cranbourne.

But at Karingal, No. 7 belongs to club royalty, Luke Van Raay.

“They had a little discussion and Holty was more than happy to not demand the No. 7,’’ Karingal coach Brendan Dunne said.

“He will be wearing 77. It says a bit about him, too. He didn’t want to take it off a club legend. You get some recruits who absolutely demand a number.’’

Karingal will be hoping Holt can fire off 77 goals, or more, this season.

HOLT, by the way, has been embraced by the Bulls.

“You’d think someone like that would have a massive ego but he doesn’t, he’s just one of the boys,’’ Dunne said of Holt.

“He’s going to be just as good around the club as he is as a player, which is what you want.’’

SOME crystal ball predictions for the 2019 MPNFL season:

Players to watch:

Langwarrin’s classy young forward Kye Whitford, who is on Casey Demons’ list.

Another Langy youngster, Mitch Charles has impressed with his composure and is tipped to make the senior side in round one.

Over at Pearcedale, young Kaolan Thornton is definitely a player of the future.

Don’t be surprised if young Chelsea forward Jesse Davies does some special things after a year off with a shoulder injury.

Look out for Karingal’s Shane Jamieson.

And Tyabb’s Liam Rogan, a young ruckman with an enormous leap, can take another step forward this year.

IT’S been a big pre-season in more ways than one for Hastings coach Ricky Ferraro.

He became a dad with the birth of son Vinny.

“Times are changing aren’t they — for the better I’ve been told,” Ricky told Pot Shots.

“We’re yet to see it at the moment, though. He’s a little monster.”

TYABB recruit Brendan Sessions comes with good raps.

He’s known as an Ovens and King goal kicking machine, having fired off a string of centuries while playing with King Valley, near Wangaratta.

ANOTHER premiership for Dermott Brereton.

The Hawthorn legend continued his love affair with cricket and, in particular his beloved Heatherhill, when he captained the Hills’ fourths to back-to-back flags last weekend.

And we are told Derm was front and centre at Mad Monday celebrations at Frankston’s Grand Hotel.

“He loves it,” Heatherhill First XI captain Sam Mullavey said.

“Everyone was around him listening to his stories. He’s a funny bloke. The time that he gives to everyone at the club...it just shows how good a bloke he is. Like, he doesn’t have to do that. He’s got a lot of commitments but he’s actually one of the greatest blokes you will ever meet.”

We are told Dermott will pad up again next season, chasing a three-peat.

PREMIERSHIP celebrations are great fun — until someone gets hurt.

Just ask Dromana player Jeff “Rooster” Bluhm, who was carted off in an ambulance at 2 o’clock in the morning after breaking his ankle while play fighting.

Poor old Rooster was laid up in hospital when he should have been partaking in Mad Monday.

THREE cheers for Baden Powell Fourth XI captain Val Gnanakone.

After 23 seasons, he finally won a premiership last week when his Braves turned the tables on Delacombe Park in the grand final.

“For a while there I didn’t think I would get one,” Val told Pot Shots.

“It’s pretty incredible, especially after all these years.”
